Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

1 pound ground beef

1/2 pound ground pork

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

1 clove garlic, minced

1 large egg

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper to taste

For the Sauce:

1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Subs:

4 hoagie rolls

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

    Make the Meatballs:

      - In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, garlic, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

        - Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1-1.5 inches in diameter.

          Cook the Meatballs:

            - In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil. Once hot, add the meatballs in batches, cooking until browned on all sides, about 6-8 minutes.

              - Once browned, pour the marinara sauce over the meatballs, add red pepper flakes if using, and simmer for about 10-15 minutes until cooked through.

                Prepare the Rolls:

                  - While the meatballs are simmering, slice the hoagie rolls down the middle without cutting all the way through.

                    Assemble the Subs:

                      - Once the meatballs are cooked, place 3-4 meatballs per hoagie roll and spoon some of the marinara sauce over the top.

                        - Generously sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on each sub.

                          Bake the Subs:

                            - Place the assembled subs on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

                              Serve:

                                - Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired. Serve hot and enjoy your Ultimate Cheesy Meatball Subs!
