For the Cake:

1 box of white or vanilla cake mix (plus ingredients required on the box: eggs, water, oil)

For the Cherry Filling:

1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling

For the Poke Cake Sauce:

1 cup sweetened condensed milk

1/4 cup maraschino cherry juice

For the Topping:

1 cup heavy whipping cream

3 tablespoons powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Extra maraschino cherries for garnish

Instructions
 

Bake the Cake:

    - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

      - Prepare the cake mix according to the instructions on the box. Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan.

        - Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 15 minutes.

          Poke the Cake:

            - Once cooled, use the back of a wooden spoon or a straw to poke holes all over the top of the cake, about 1-inch apart.

              Prepare the Poke Sauce:

                - In a mixing bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk and maraschino cherry juice. Stir well until smooth.

                  - Pour the mixture evenly over the poke holes in the cake, allowing it to seep in.

                    Add the Cherry Filling:

                      - Spoon the cherry pie filling over the top of the cake, spreading it out evenly.

                        Make the Whipped Topping:

                          - In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract together until soft peaks form.

                            - Spread the whipped cream over the cherry filling layer.

                              Chill and Serve:

                                - Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld and the cake to set.

                                  - Before serving, garnish the cake with extra maraschino cherries if desired.
