Ingredients

For the dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

½ cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon salt

½ cup whole milk, warmed

½ cup water, warmed

⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

For the filling:

⅓ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

For the frosting:

4 oz cream cheese, softened

¼ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 ½ cups powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1-2 tablespoons milk (for consistency)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

    - In a small bowl, combine the warmed milk, water, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

      - In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center and add the frothy yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs.

        - Mix until combined, then knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

          - Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

            Make the Filling:

              - In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.

                Assemble the Rolls:

                  - Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it into a rectangle about 16x24 inches.

                    - Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

                      - Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seam to seal it.

                        Cut and Arrange:

                          - Cut the rolled dough into 12 equal slices. Place them cut side up in a greased baking dish.

                            - Cover with a damp cloth and let them rise again for about 30 minutes until they puff up.

                              Bake:

                                - Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cinnamon rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

                                  Make the Frosting:

                                    - In a medium bowl, beat together the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth and creamy. Adjust milk for desired consistency.

                                      Frost and Serve:

                                        - Once the rolls are done baking, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly before drizzling the frosting on top.

                                          - Serve warm and enjoy your soft, gooey cinnamon rolls!
