Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened at room temperature

1 cup vegetable shortening

4 cups powdered sugar, sifted

1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Pinch of salt

Instructions

Beat the Butter and Shortening: In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened butter and vegetable shortening together until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.

Incorporate the Sugar: Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, mixing on low speed to prevent a sugar cloud. Once incorporated, increase the speed to high and beat for another 3-5 minutes until fluffy.

Add Condensed Milk: Pour in the sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Beat on medium speed until the mixture is smooth and well combined.

Adjust Consistency: If the buttercream is too stiff, you can add a little milk (1 tablespoon at a time) to reach your desired consistency. If it's too soft, add a bit more powdered sugar.

Taste and Adjust: Taste the buttercream and adjust the vanilla or salt according to your preference.

Chill If Needed: If the buttercream is too soft for piping, you can refrigerate it for about 30 minutes to firm it up.

Decorate: Use the Russian buttercream for frosting cakes, cupcakes, or cookies. It can also be easily colored with gel food colors for decorative purposes.

Prep Time: 10 minutes | Total Time: 30 minutes | Servings: Enough to frost 2-3 layered cakes or approximately 24 cupcakes
