Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

1 cup Italian breadcrumbs

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

2 large eggs

1/4 cup milk

1 cup marinara sauce

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Breading: In a large bowl, combine Italian breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

Prepare the Egg Mixture: In another bowl, whisk the eggs and milk together until well combined.

Bread the Chicken: Dip each chicken breast first in the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, and then coat it thoroughly in the breadcrumb mixture. Press down to ensure the breadcrumbs stick well. Repeat for all chicken breasts.

Sear the Chicken: In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the breaded chicken breasts and sear for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until golden brown. You may need to work in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.

Bake the Chicken: Transfer the seared chicken breasts to a greased baking dish. Pour marinara sauce over the top, then sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.

Final Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/75°C) and the cheese is bubbly and slightly golden.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired, and serve warm with your choice of sides.
