Ingredients

1 large sub roll or hoagie bread

4 ounces sliced salami

4 ounces sliced mortadella

4 ounces sliced cappicola

4 ounces sliced provolone cheese

1/2 cup shredded lettuce

1/4 cup sliced banana peppers (or pickled peppers)

1/4 cup sliced red onion

1 medium tomato, sliced

1/4 cup sliced black olives

1/2 cup Italian dressing (store-bought or homemade)

Salt and pepper, to taste

Optional: crushed red pepper flakes for added spice

Instructions

Prep the Bread: Slice the sub roll horizontally, making sure not to cut all the way through so that it can open like a book.

Layer the Meats: Spread the layers of salami, mortadella, and cappicola evenly within the sliced roll, ensuring a generous distribution.

Add Cheese: Place the slices of provolone cheese on top of the meats.

Load Veggies: Add the shredded lettuce, followed by the banana peppers, red onion, tomato slices, and black olives.

Drizzle Dressing: Generously drizzle Italian dressing over the top of the sandwich. Season with salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes if desired.

Close and Press: Close the sandwich gently and press down firmly to compact the fillings.

Optional Toasting: For a warm sandwich, place it under a sandwich press or in a hot skillet (weighted down with another pan) for 3-4 minutes until the bread is toasted, and the cheese begins to melt.

Slice and Serve: Cut the sandwich in half and serve it with extra Italian dressing on the side for dipping if desired.
