1. Slicing the Rolls: Start by taking your Hawaiian sweet rolls and slicing them in half horizontally. This step is crucial as it allows the custard mixture to soak into the rolls effectively. Ensure that you don't slice all the way through, as you want the rolls to remain intact and easy to dip.

Ingredients

1 package (12 rolls) Hawaiian sweet rolls

4 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon sugar

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1/4 cup crushed pineapple (optional, for topping)

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

Prepare the Rolls: Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half and set aside.

Mix the Batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and sugar until well combined.

Soak the Rolls: Dip each half of the Hawaiian roll into the egg mixture, allowing them to soak for about 20-30 seconds per side. Make sure they are well coated but not overly soggy.

Heat the Pan: Preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter, swirling to coat the bottom of the pan.

Cook the Rolls: Once the butter is melted and bubbling, place the soaked Hawaiian rolls in the skillet, cut side down. Cook for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and slightly crispy. Flip and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes on the other side.

Repeat: Remove the cooked rolls and place them on a plate. Add more butter to the skillet and repeat the process with the remaining rolls.

Serve: Dust the French toast with powdered sugar and top with crushed pineapple, if desired. Serve warm with maple syrup drizzled over each piece.
