Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup buttermilk

4 oz cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1 tablespoon milk (for the cream cheese filling)

1 tablespoon butter, melted (for topping)

1/4 cup granulated sugar (for topping)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with paper liners or spray with non-stick cooking spray.

Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.

Cream the Sugars and Butter: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Start and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.

Prepare Cream Cheese Filling: In a small bowl, blend the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth and creamy. Set aside.

Fill Muffin Tin: Spoon a small amount of the muffin batter into each muffin cup, just enough to cover the bottom. Add about one tablespoon of the cream cheese filling on top of the batter, then add another spoonful of muffin batter to cover the cream cheese completely.

Prepare Topping: In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon. Drizzle this mixture over the top of each muffin batter.

Bake: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean (except for the ooey-gooey cream cheese).

Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove the muffins from the oven and let them cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
