Ingredients

1 lb ground beef or turkey

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup ketchup

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and pepper, to taste

4 large garlic bread slices (store-bought or homemade)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Cook the Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or turkey until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Add Veggies: Stir in the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes or until the onion is translucent.

Mix the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture over the meat in the skillet.

Simmer: Reduce the heat to low, and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce has thickened and flavors meld together.

Prepare Garlic Bread: While the meat is simmering, preheat the oven according to the garlic bread package instructions (typically 375°F / 190°C). If making homemade garlic bread, spread a generous amount of garlic butter on the bread slices and toast until golden and crispy.

Assemble: Once the meat mixture is ready, spoon a generous amount onto each slice of toasted garlic bread.

Add Cheese: Top each sloppy joe with a handful of shredded mozzarella cheese.

Melt the Cheese: Return the open-faced sandwiches to the oven for about 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and sprinkle with chopped parsley. Serve immediately, garnished with additional parsley if desired.
