Ingredients

1 large head of green cabbage

1 pound ground beef (or pork or turkey)

1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 large egg

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes

1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prep the Cabbage: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully remove leaves from the cabbage head. Boil the cabbage leaves for about 3-5 minutes, or until they are pliable. Drain and set aside to cool.

Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

Stuff the Cabbage Leaves: Lay a cabbage leaf on a flat surface. Place about 2-3 tablespoons of the meat mixture at the base of the leaf. Fold in the sides and roll it up tightly to enclose the filling. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.

Prepare the Sauce: In a separate bowl, mix together the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, brown sugar, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce until blended.

Assemble the Rolls: In a large baking dish, spread a thin layer of the tomato sauce mixture on the bottom. Place the stuffed cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish. Pour the remaining sauce over the rolls.

Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the rolls are heated through and the sauce is bubbly.

Serve: Let the rolls cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley.
