Ingredients

2 beef cube steaks (about 6 oz each)

Salt and black pepper, to taste

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon paprika

2 large eggs

1/4 cup buttermilk

1/4 cup milk

Vegetable oil, for frying

1/4 cup chicken broth (optional, for gravy)

Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Steak: Start by seasoning both sides of the cube steaks generously with salt and black pepper. Allow them to sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes.

Dredging Station: In a shallow dish, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, and milk.

Coat the Steaks: Dip each steak first into the egg mixture, ensuring it is fully coated. Then, dredge it in the flour mixture, pressing down lightly to adhere. Set aside on a plate and repeat for the remaining steaks.

Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, pour in about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil over medium heat. Allow it to heat until shimmering but not smoking.

Fry the Steaks: Carefully place the coated steaks in the skillet, cooking for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove the steaks and let them drain on paper towels.

Make the Gravy (Optional): In the same skillet, reduce the heat to low. If using, add the chicken broth to the remaining drippings, scraping the bottom of the skillet. Stir in an additional 1/4 cup of flour, whisking constantly until the mixture thickens. Gradually add 1 cup of milk, continue whisking until smooth, and season with salt and pepper.

Serve: Plate the crispy chicken fried steaks, drizzling the gravy on top. Garnish with fresh parsley for an elegant touch.
