Ingredients

For the Cardamom Shortbread Cookies:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

¾ cup confectioners' sugar

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 tsp ground cardamom

½ tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Orange Glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar

2-3 tbsp fresh orange juice

Zest of 1 orange

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and confectioners' sugar until light and fluffy.

Add Dry Ingredients: Mix in the cardamom and salt. Gradually add the flour, mixing just until the dough comes together.

Form Cookies: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to about ½ inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut the dough into desired shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

Cool Cookies: Remove cookies from the oven and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack.

Prepare the Orange Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, orange juice, and orange zest until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more orange juice if it's too thick or more powdered sugar if it’s too thin.

Glaze the Cookies: Once the cookies are completely cool, drizzle the orange glaze over each cookie using a spoon or a piping bag.

Let the Glaze Set: Allow the glaze to set for about 30 minutes before serving.
